Phipps "Very Excited" to Host G20 Event

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens has been selected as one of the venues in Pittsburgh for G20 events. The White House says President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will host a welcoming event at Phipps for the 19 world leaders, their spouses and representatives of the European Union. There will also be a working dinner there. Phipps Executive Director Richard Piacentini says he's very excited for Phipps and the city "to have the opportunity and to showcase what a great city we have in Pittsburgh and all the great things happening in the city."
Piacentini says they tried to position Phipps as a beautiful facility..."a leader in green building and operations and one of the 'greenest' gardens in the world."
The tropical forest conservatory is the world's most energy efficient conservatory and the only one powered by a solid oxide fuel cell. Piacentini says there are a lot preparations to make but "they hope to make Pittsburgh proud."
